DC rules Davraa Meet doubles

HOST Davao City ruled the secondary boys and girls doubles events at the close of the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2003 at the PTA tennis courts Saturday.

Ed Angelo Diez of the University of Mindanao won his second title by topping the doubles event in a tandem with Luigi Albarracin of the Ateneo de Davao University.

The Diez-Albarracin duo defeated Digos City's Ian Delvo and Efren Macasin, 6-3, to earn the right to represent Davraa in the coming Palaro Pambansa slated May 4 to 11 in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Diez, who won the singles event earlier, said that he is confident to retain his Palaro doubles crown with Albarracin, his new partner.

Diez pocketed the doubles gold last year in a tandem with former Rizal Memorial Colleges standout Ralph Kevin Barte, who is now seriously campaigning in international junior circuits as the country's No. 1 netter in the 14-under category.

Diez said Delvo and Davao Oriental's James Patrick Pang will complete the region's roster for the national meet.

In the girls division, Davao City's Mary Ann Luy and Ricah Ibbarientos scored a 6-4 victory over Davao Oriental's Patricia Adaza and Macy Serrano.

Luy, a student of F. Bangoy National High School, also ruled the singles event.

Adaza and Serrano also made it to the list of other Palaro qualifiers. MLS
