Dismissal of raps vs 2 suspects won't affect case

POLICE authorities said the recent dismissal of the multiple frustrated murder and multiple murder charges against two of the many suspects in the Davao International Airport (DIA) bombing will have no bearing on the case against the rest of the suspects.

Police Regional Office 11 spokesman Sr. Supt. Eric Javier said they do not consider the release of cousins Terso and Undungan Sudang from the Ma-a City Jail Monday as a big blow to ongoing police investigation on the airport blast last month.

He said it is a big victory for the criminal justice system in the country.

"Whatever decision the court has made we respect it and will abide by it," Javier said adding that they have no plans of contesting the court's decision on the release of the two Sudangs.

He also advised the media not to identify the suspects of the airport and Sasa wharf bombings by batches or in time of their arrest.

"Actually there is no batch one or batch two of suspects since it's only the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that is our suspect here," clarified Javier.

Judge Paul Arcangel of the Regional Trial Court Branch 12 ordered the release of the two Sudangs after the prosecution panel filed a motion to dismiss the case against the two suspects for lack of sufficient evidence.

They were arrested by police authorities last March 5 inside the Davao Medical Center while attempting to claim the body of Montasser Sudang, the primary suspect in the airport bombing. Montasser was among those killed in the DIA blast. BOT
