Gulle: We can benefit from Sars By Inocentes A. Gulle
HUMAN knowledge has leaped to dizzying heights this last 100 years, perhaps more than all knowledge accumulated since year 1. The tremendous development of the human mind has probably made man think that he is capable of anything.
Almost anything, but not quite. This advent of Sars (severe acute respiratory syndrome) has probably jolted him into the reality that he is just as vulnerable to nature's whims as Adam was. All his knowledge and intelligence has now proven inadequate with which to cope with, let alone prevent, any such thing when nature asserts itself.
With all the panic, apprehensions and deaths it has brought mankind Monday, Sars may prove a boon. For one, it has reminded us of the admonition given by the Master Builder Himself some 2,000 years ago, that this civilization will end and that He will replace it with His own kingdom where everything would be renewed.
Sars is only one of the many reminders he mentioned, as signs of the coming of the end of things. There had been many already that we ignored. Here are a few, if you care:
* The prophet Daniel mentioned that the knowledge of man would increase and that people would be going to and fro...but the end is not yet.
* All the prophets before and after him gave similar warnings but the world refused to heed.
* Jesus himself gave a sort of summary of all the signs given in those prophecies, as recorded in books of Matthew (24), Mark (13) and Luke (21) which many of us perhaps have read but just ignored or failed to understand. For example, do the following seem to ring a bell?
* There will be wars and rumor of wars - how many wars have we witnessed these two last generations?
* There will be famines and earthquakes in various places - remember N. Korea, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, and Eritrea?
* Brothers will fight against brothers, fathers their sons, daughters-in-law their mothers-in-law; How about the ethnic cleansings in Tutsi land, Bosnia, Serbia, Chechnea, Hitler's "final solution" and Stalin's purges?
* Many will come claiming they are the Christ, or some will say Christ is in some place here or there. Haven't we seen on TV "christs" in toilet tiles, in banana trunks, electric poles, or he is in such a place healing sick people? Or, that woman claiming she is the wife of God?
These are all signs of the beginning of the end, as He said, but the end not yet. Oh but it is near. We have seen them all these last few decades, in our own generation. Sars is just a little tickler of sorts to keep us on our toes, at least those among us who believe.
Those who believe need not fear, therefore, for He promised to keep them out of harms way when the time comes.
