Casaljay, Ladra are riders to beat in Tour de Grande
SOUTHEAST Asian (SEA) Games campaigner Ruel Casaljay, Hilario Ladra and Glenn Yap are the riders to beat in the Open elite division of the coming Tour de Grande Mayor's Cup cycling event this Sunday in Catalunan Grande.
Salvador "Jun" Paholio Jr. of the organizing Samahang Siklista ng Mindanao confirmed the entries of the three Davao riders in the out-and-back course race during Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) forum.
Paholio said riders from General Santos City, Marbel, Iligan, Butuan, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Lanao del Norte, Tagum and Digos City are also expected to provide stiff opposition to the locals in the 150-kilometer bikefest.
"Bacolod and Iloilo riders may also be joining the race. We target over 100 participants -- road bikers and mountain bikers alike," Paholio said.
Alex Galagar, who is also helping organize the event, said the open elite category covers five laps, while the executive with two laps.
He said cash prizes of P5, 000, P3, 000 and P2, 000 will be awarded to the top three finishers, respectively in the open elite division.
The champion will also receive a trophy, while the second and third placers get medals.
Each lap winner will likewise get P400, while the next seven survivors will receive P300 each.
In the executive division, the champion will take home P3, 500 plus trophy, while the runner-up will pocket P2, 000 plus a medal. The third placer will settle for P1, 500 with medal.
Each lap winner will get P300, while P250 each will go to the next seven finishers.
Trophies will also be awarded to the eagle of the mountain, youngest rider, undying spirit and oldest rider.
Registration fee of P250 per rider is inclusive of printed uniforms, packed lunch and certificate of participation.
The event is presented by the San Isidro Labrador Parish in cooperation with Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, Kill Droga Movement, Rural Development for Sustainable Growth and SILP-service.com.
It is sanctioned by the Philippine Amateur Cycling Association (Paca 11). MLS
