City allocates P40.5M for room repairs, textbooks
THE Local School Board-Special Education Fund (LSB-SEF) of Davao City allocated a total of P40.5 million for the repair of classrooms and for supplies of textbooks in the elementary and secondary levels.
This was bared Monday by Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta, chair of committee on education of the City Council during the Kapehan sa Davao at the PIA Monday.
Acosta said lack of classrooms, textbooks, and chairs have been a perennial problem even before she assumed the committee chairmanship.
"Sa una ra gyod ni nga problema ug (This has been a perennial problem and) even if I will graduate from this chairmanship, this problem will still remain," she said.
Acosta said that of the P40.5 million budget, P9.5 million is allocated for the repair and rehabilitation of classrooms, P13 million for school building construction, P10 million for armchairs and P8 million for textbooks.
These funds are intended for both public elementary and secondary schools.
The LSB is also subsidizing a total of 329 teachers, 113 of whom are from the elementary level, 35 are permanent teachers while 78 are co-terminus.
The 216 are from the secondary level, 134 of which are permanent and 82 co-terminus.
Acosta said the LSB gets its funding from the Special Education Fund (SEF), derived from one percent of real estate taxes.
She said that last year, SEF totaled to P110 million. RCB
