Acosta on 'hit list' of writers again

ANYBODY can be a writer but not all can be true journalists, Davao City Councilor Mabel Acosta-Laman said Tuesday in reaction to an article in another local daily, which again tried to link her to controversies.

Councilor Laman said the articles are "obviously politically motivated."

Teary-eyed Laman lamented during a privilege speech the writer's claim that City Hall favors her.

Thus she has been issued four government-owned vehicles and is regularly being chose as "the City Government's representative in significant out-of-town engagements."

"I don't have four cars issued to me. The column is very foul. The writer even stated that I celebrated my son's birthday in a hotel using the government's money. Does it really have to be subsidized by the government? I believe I can afford the luxuries for my children," Acosta said.

Acosta's staff said the lady councilor was issued three government vehicles: a Mazda Pick-up, an Anfra, and a New Ford Ranger.

Acosta appealed to media practitioners to discern the truth instead of just fabricating stories against any politician.

"If government officials were issued vehicles, the question should be whether or not these officials are working," she said.

Acosta said she is still contemplating on filing appropriate charges against those responsible for the article.

"I feel so insulted by the article. My husband owns properties and I can say that we have enough money. I just hope na hindi siya (the writer of the article) tularan ng ibang mga nasa media," Acosta said. AAG
