3 sued for illegal recruitment

THREE alleged illegal recruiters from Bunawan, Davao City presently detained at the Criminal Investigation Detection Group 11 (CIDG) are facing formal charges before the court.

The suspects allegedly recruited workers for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and then abandoned them upon reaching Manila.

Facing the charges of illegal recruitment in large scale are Mae Macasaet, 31, Lilia Macasaet and Arlene Oboza, 30, all of Km. 22, Budbud, Bunawan in Davao City.

The complaint was filed by Judith dela Peņa, of PRO 11, Camp Catitipan, Buhangin, Davao City. Six other complainants, all coming from different places executed separate affidavits claiming that they paid various amounts to the respondents ranging from P15,000 to P32,000 as processing fees.

The respondents allegedly promised them work in Dubai with a monthly salary of P45,000. But upon reaching Manila, they were allegedly abandoned by their recruiters.

The two Macasaets were arrested during an entrapment operation around 2 p.m. on August 1 near Mister Donut at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (Dcott).

A team of CIDG operatives was formed to monitor the activities of the suspects after they received the complaints.

PO1 Jisela Mamon and PO1 Jorge Menesis from the CIDG posed as applicants, pretending they were from Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat. They were instructed to bring their birth certificates as well as P20,000 as processing fees.

The respondents set a schedule to meet them at the Dcott. After waiting for five minutes, the respondents arrived.

Mamon handed over to Mae Macasaet marked P100 bills which the latter handed over to Oboza for counting. As soon as the money changed hands, the police authorities identified themselves and arrested the two Macasaets.

Oboza was arrested in the follow-up operation that was conducted on the same day.

A verification at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) showed that the respondents were not authorized to recruit workers for employment. RCB
