HCSD ready for battle in Nike 3-0n-3 finals
THE Holy Child School of Davao is going all out in its Nike Battleground Asia National Finals stint on August 17 at the Festival Mall in Alabang.
Holy Child's representative Cheryl Cunanan said their Nike 3-on-3 team, which copped the Davao leg title recently, had been in rigid training for the national tournament.
Cunanan, wife of Holy Child Head Coach Iledefonso, said: "Our boys are busy practicing. They are also inspired with the school administration's all-out support."
Team captain Joseph Hermosisima said it was a great feeling that they defeated perennial rival Ateneo de Davao University in the Davao finals.
"Hindi kami makakasiguro sa national. Praktis lang kami araw-araw. Malakas ang mga makakalaban namin katulad ng University of the Visayas kasi malalaki sila at matatangkad (We can't be too sure of our chances in the national finals. We'll have to train everyday because we will be up against taller and bigger teams like UV)," Hermosisima said.
Hermosisima, who was accompanied by his teammates in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) forum at the Tower Inn, said he is not yet familiar with the kind of game San Beda College plays.
Multi-titled San Beda is eyed as the top contender for the plum along with University of the East and Pampanga.
Joining Hermosisima in Holy Child's campaign are Noel Somoso and Paulos Abraham Dalisay. Teammates Ronnierick Wong, Bryan Jones Rosete, Michael Rosal and Jay Esperanzate will be the reserves.
Meanwhile, Holy Child's former ace cagers Gino Etrone and Rodel Raņeses are currently training with the RP national juniors basketball team. MLS
