Motolite bikefest set Aug. 24

ORGANIZERS are upbeat for the staging of the 2nd Motolite Enduro Challenge "Sikad-Sikad sa Kadayawan" in an out-and-back course from Shrine Hills, Matina on August 24.

Motolite spokesman Ernest Damaso said this year's edition of the bike fest expects to surpass the 640 turnout of entries last year.

"We expect a bigger participation in the coming race featuring riders in the executive, fun ride and open elite categories," Damaso told members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) in their weekly sports forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.

Damaso said the six-lap open elite division would have a team competition and an individual category while the executive division for 40 years old and under will cover three laps.

Cash prizes of P7,000, P4,000 and P3,000 will go to the top three teams, respectively, in the open elite.

A cash prize of P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 will also be awarded to the first three individual riders while the next 10 finishers will get P300 each.

In the executive class, the champion will pocket P2,000 while the second and third placers will receive P1,500 and P1,000, respectively. The next 10 riders will get P200 apiece.

Raffle prizes will be up for grabs in the MTB fun ride of the bikathon organized by the Samahang Siklista ng Mindanao (Sasismind) and sanctioned by the Philippine Amateur Cycling Association (Paca) Region 11.

Sasimind president Salvador "Jun" Paholio Jr. said three Davao teams are entered in the team event while General Santos City, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Butuan City and Cebu City will also send their entries.

The event is in coordination with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office and Federation of Off-Road Cycling Enthusiasts (Force). MLS
