ComVal IPs to get title of 30 hectares
INDIGENOUS people belonging to four of the tribes residing in Compostela Valley province will be awarded with a Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) on August 22, National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) 11 officials said Monday.
The title covers some 30,468.2 hectares of land in Monkayo, Compostela Valley province, as claimed by 2,189 tribal members.
Four tribes that are native in the area, the Mandaya, Mangguangaun, Manobo, and Dibabawon are claiming the vast track of mostly forestlands as their Ancestral Domain.
Lilibeth Malabauan, NCIP 11 Technical Division chief said the office is at present verifying the genealogy of the claimants.
Even those who have already migrated to nearby areas but are able to trace their roots even before the Spanish conquest in the country centuries ago.
She said the identification and verification process has been running for almost two years now.
In commending the efforts of the government, NCIP 11 Regional Hearing Officer Leonor Oralde said with the CADT issuance, tribal members may now "legally claim their domain and will have the papers to prove it."
"They can now say this is our territory," Oralde stressed, adding that support services are also available for the development of Lumads.
Incidentally, the CADT covers the 8,100-hectare Mining Reservation Area declared by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Malabauan said the NCIP was also tasked by the President to distribute 100,000 hectares of land to IPs.
The largest CADT title was handed out to the 15,000 Bungkalot tribe members and other IP migrants in Nagtipunan, Quirino, which covered 139,691 hectares.
Since last year, a total of 367,346 hectares of land have been distributed to 76,336 IPs nationwide, majority of them from Mindanao. CEU
