Lapeņa vows safety of Asean delegates

CHIEF Supt. Isidro Lapeņa, police regional director, assured Thursday that there would be enough security for all the delegates in next week's 11th Senior Officials Meeting in Davao City.

In a radio interview with Radyo ng Bayan, Lapeņa said they are now in the process of preparing security plans for the meeting that is expected to draw delegates from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and other neighboring Asian countries.

"We will provide security on all the places of engagement as well as for all the delegates," Lapeņa said.

He said they would augment the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) with personnel from the regional police office, the Army and the elite Task Force Davao to ensure that nothing untoward will happen during the four-day activity.

Lapeņa met with the officials of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco) Thursday for details of activities next week.

He said they would maintain a heightened alert status for the duration of the meeting to ensure that at least 50 percent of their total force is on duty at any given time of the day.
