TFD men chase 2 foreigners, found no explosives

PERSONNEL of the Task Force Davao (TFD) chased two foreign nationals after they suspiciously left their car in front of a restaurant along Quimpo Boulevard, Ecoland, Matina, Davao City last Thursday morning.

Martin Pokorny, a Czechoslovakian, and Chong Yun Wat, a Malaysian, were arrested around 11 a.m. while aboard a Rural Tours passenger bus bound for Cagayan de Oro, with body number 2504 in front of Citi Hardware, Quimpo Blvd.

According to the Capt. Ralph dela Cruz of the TFD, an employee of the Yellow Fin restaurant called their office after a trisikad driver informed them that two suspicious-looking foreigners parked their gray van with plate number LEN-413 in front of the restaurant around 10:30 a.m. and rushed towards Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (Dccott).

Upon receiving the report, TFD members responded to the area and deployed their personnel from the Explosive and Ordinance Division (EOD) and a K-9 dog to the parked vehicle.

No explosive materials were, however, found prompting them to chase the two foreigners.

Upon verification, it was found out that a friend of the two suspects would pick up the vehicle in front of Yellow Fin restaurant.

"According to him (Pokorny) the vehicle will be picked-up by his friend who resides in the city. Hindi man din namin sila mahuli kasi wala man din silang offense (We can't arrest them, because there's no offense). We just made sure and checked everything that seemed suspicious," dela Cruz said.

"It clearly shows that the people are really alert this time," said Col. Gaudencio Pangilinan, TFD chief. GPP
