911 can't help all callers: SK By Raquel C. Bagnol
THE chief of staff of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) under Councilor April May Dayap Sunday said 911 or the emergency assistance center is not efficient enough to address all calls for assistance.
Guesting during the Tabak forum at the Madayaw Ihaw-ihaw and Restaurant, SK Chief of Staff Richard "Bong" Aņo said that based on experience, immediate assistance is not assured for 911 callers.
"Siguro dahil sa dami ng (Maybe due to the number of) calls, they can't respond immediately. There are a lot of complaints that people call 911, tapos walang mangyayari (then nothing happens)," Aņo said.
To augment the function of the 911, Club 117, a youth organization, is formed to act as a watch guard against criminality. Club 117 forged a partnership with the PNP.
Aņo said that Club 117 will be launched in Davao City on September 23 and aimed at training the youth to respond quickly and report any criminality to authorities through the use of e-mail or cellphones.
Aņo said this program, which is funded by the PNP and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) was already launched in the National Capital Region (NCR) last month.
Club 117 is set to be launched in Baguio, Cebu and Davao cities.
He said that after the launching of the program at NCR, they already received numerous calls, text and e-mail messages, mostly coming from Davao City.
