Mayor to go underground if coup plotters succeed
APPARENTLY irked by the constant threat of a coup de etat in Manila, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte issued a stern warning against military coup plotters out to oust the administration of President Arroyo.
His warning: he will side with the New People's Army (NPA) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) once there is a military takeover.
Duterte said he would rather go to the mountains and fight side by side with the communist rebels or the Muslim secessionist group than serve under an illegitimate military regime.
He made the pronouncement after unconfirmed reports circulated that a number of retired and active generals are now planning to join the call for President Arroyo to step down from power.
Duterte said he would rather be a lowly shoeshine boy than work with the coup plotters. BOT
