Montaņa teams prevail in Rody basketball

The Montaņa Pawnshop team beat their rivals in the "Pabasketbol ni Rody" before a full-house crowd at the Almendras Gym Monday night.

Philippine Basketball League (PBL) Montaņa subdued Blu Detergent, 66-60, while Montaņa-Davao edged Duterte Agilas, 63-60, in the two-game exhibition match presented by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Francis Rauschmayer led the assault for the PBL Montaņa with 13 points. Gary David and Marlon Basco added 11 and 12 points, respectively.

Blu Detergent relied on Lou Gatumbato, who made 13 points along with Eric Delacuesta and former MBA Davao Eagles mainstay Randy Lopez, who scored identical nine points each for their losing cause.

PBL Montaņa was just ahead by one point, 35-34, at halftime then stretched the lead to two 51-49 in the third canto.

In an earlier game, Montaņa-Davao tamed the Duterte Agilas in a come-from-behind fashion.

The Agilas, managed by Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, led in the first half 40-33, but Montaņa-Davao recovered to trim the lead by just one point, 53-52, in the third quarter. Then Montaņa-Davao sealed the match.

The games were witnessed by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) regional director Regino Cua, Sports Development Division officer-in-charge Galvani Yanong and other BAP and city officials.
