300 more cops sent to secure Eaga gab
By Gwen P. Posadas

AT LEAST 300 policemen from the mobile security division of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 in Camp Catitipan, Buhangin, Davao City were deployed to secure foreign dignitaries from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Officials of the Brunei Indonesia Malaysia and Philippines-East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga) are holding its three-day 11th Senior Officials and 8th Ministerial meeting at the Marco Polo Hotel that started on September 10.

"We are considering different scenarios that might arise," Col. Conrado Laza, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief, said.

Policemen from Camp Catitipan augmented the usual police force deployed to different downtown police stations in the city.

DCPO also coordinated with the Task Force Davao (TFD) to secure the foreign dignitaries.

Laza also said authorities did not receive any threats despite the large number of foreign personalities in the city.

"As far as I am concerned, wala pa naman kaming namo-monitor (we haven't monitored any threats from terror groups)," Laza said.

A number of K-9 dogs from the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (Satu) and TFD were also deployed until the Bimp-Eaga meeting culminates Thursday.
