BFP not lacking support from City: Ortiz
COUNCILOR Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz said Thursday that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) doesn't lack support from the Davao City Government, contrary to earlier reports that the city did not appropriate enough budget for its operation.
"In the 2003 budget, BFP was appropriated P275,000 from the lump sum appropriation. The personnel also received monthly supply of rice from the City Mayor's Office," Ortiz said.
Ortiz, who chairs the City Council committee on finance, said P75,000 of the total budget was allocated for the purchase of computers while the P200,000 was for gas allowance.
"Based on the budget proposal of the BFP presented to the City Budget Office, hindi naman kasi na-indicate doon ang para sa maintenance ng mga fire trucks. Kung wala silang (The maintenance of the fire trucks was not indicated in the budget. If they don't have any) budget for the repair, they must include it in their budget proposal for year 2004. It is their discretion kung ano ang i-prioritize nila for budgeting (what they prioritize for budgeting)," Ortiz said.
Earlier reports showed that out of the 18 fire trucks of the BFP, 10 of them are unserviceable and need repair.
"If they will submit proposal to the executive department for the budget of the repair of fire trucks, then the executive department will bring it to the council for consideration," she said.
Ortiz said the budget allocation received by the BFP management is, in fact, bigger compared to the budget allocation from the national department. AAG
