CIDG: Text messages not enough evidence v. Rody
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 11 said Thursday that it could not accuse Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the mastermind behind the assassination of the controversial radio broadcaster and a former councilor Juan Porras Pala based on plain text messages.
"Yon ang nakalagay doon. Pero hindi naman ito evidence para i-accuse si mayor (That is what was written in sent text messages to Pala's wife, alleging Duterte as mastermind. But this is not evidence enough to accuse the mayor)," CIDG chief Danilo Galapon said.
Following Pala's murder, numerous text messages were received by Pala's wife, Louie, saying that Duterte had a hand in the killing.
Despite such rumors, CIDG is not limiting its scope on the possible angles on the broadcaster's death.
"I have ordered them (CIDG elements) to look into all angles. Yong lumalabas na NPA raw ang tumira, maaari rin yon (The rumors about the New People's Army having a hand in the killing is a possible lead)," Galapon said.
Earlier, Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 director Isidro Lapeņa said NPA rebels could be responsible for Pala's death, since he was known as a staunch anti-communist.
"Di namin titigilan ang lahat ng anggulo, para matukoy kung sino ang may kagagawan sa pagpapatay kay Pala (We won't stop investigating all angles, so we can pinpoint the perpetrator)," Galapon said.
Galapon led some CIDG members to the crime scene Thursday morning to re-enact how the late broadcaster was shot dead by two unidentified assailants along United Nation Street corner Holland Street, Vista Verde, Panacan, Davao City around 6:45 p.m. last September 6.
CIDG is also working on Pala's second ambush, suspects of which have yet to be identified until now. GPP
