IBP-Davao willing to handle Pala case

INTEGRATED Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Davao chapter chair Carlos Isagani Zarate said Thursday that they are willing to offer legal services to the family of slain broadcaster Juan Porras Pala Jr.

Zarate, who joined Thursday's indignation rally spearheaded by the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) condemning the killings of media practitioners, said the IBP-Davao will not hesitate to take Pala's case even if they were also subjected to his tirades before.

Zarate said the murder of Pala sent a wrong signal to international communities.

"It's not only alarming but deplorable. This shows that there are a lot of undemocratic elements who cannot live with democratic tenets," he added.

Zarate urged those who felt aggrieved by media criticisms not to put the law into their own hands.

"You go through legal process. We have the libel law," Zarate added as he also encouraged media practitioners to be responsible in their job. AAG
