5-K fun run set Sunday

READ Write Run, a three-kilometer and five-kilometer fun run for a cause, will kick off Sunday in an out-and-back course from the C. Alcantara and Sons, Inc. in Lanang.

The event, which will fire off at 6:15 a.m., is jointly organized by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the Davao Sunday Runners Club Inc.

PBSP program officer Yvonne Lucindo said: "The fun run will launch our Education through My Charitable Contribution (E=MC2) project."

Lucindo said E=MC2 is their way of asking individuals to help send children in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (Armm) to school.

"C. Alcantara and Sons is the first company to support the E=MC2. Each of its employees pledged to set aside P50 in each payday throughout the year to help fund the project. We are also encouraging other companies to buy into the campaign," Lucindo said during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.

Close to 300 runners are expected to join the fun run that offers medals to the winners.

Registration fee is P50 per player inclusive of free breakfast. Proceeds of the event will benefit education initiatives of PBSP.

DCT Printshop, Inc., Dole Philippines, Inc., Anflocor, R.J.S. Industrial Construction and Development Corporation and Monark CAT are sponsoring the running activity.

Lucindo said a Read Write Bike would also be staged before the year ends. MLS
