Golf event to kick off 3rd MFG

A TWO-day golf competition will usher an early start for the 3rd Mindanao Games on October 16 and 17 at Davao City's Apo Golf and Country Club.

This was revealed by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) regional coordinator Vic Sai to members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum in their weekly sports forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.

"Only golf will be held in Davao since the dancesport event is set in the evening of October 18 at the Mati Cultural Center," Sai said.

Davao was earlier set to host dancesport but organizers recently decided to give the hosting to Mati instead along with 23 other events.

Only four local government units (LGUs) confirmed participation in dancesport, according to Sai, but they expect the total turnout to reach 10.

Meanwhile, Sai said the 165-kilometer road bike race will also be underway on October 18.

"It will start from Davao City's Rizal Park at 7 a.m. and will end at the municipality of Mati," Sai said.

He said all details such as rules and regulations per sports discipline, billeting and final submission of entries are set on September 16 in Mati during the 3rd Mindanao Games general technical assembly.

Forty-eight LGUs are seeing action in the Games that also features arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, boxing, chess, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, pencak silat, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball and weightlifting.
