7 sued for mauling high school teacher
By Raquel C. Bagnol

A MAN and six minors, five boys and a girl, were formally charged before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) for allegedly mauling a high school teacher in Davao City in February this year.

Prosecutor Arlene Palabrica recommended the filing of the charges against Jimboy, Jasper, Esmael and Jezel, Dexter Dan, Cristine (all surnames withheld for being minors) and one unidentified man, all of 26-A Garcia Heights, Bajada, Davao City. The suspects are charged with attempted murder and recommended a P120,000 bail for each of the suspects.

The case was resolved based on the evidence presented by the complainant Renato Rafols, 37-year-old teacher of Davao City National High School (DCNHS) and a resident of Cattleya Street, Barangay Sto. Niņo, Tugbok District, Davao City.

In his affidavit, Rafols narrated that he was sitting on a cemented portion at the vicinity of Durian Hotel in Bajada, Davao City around 11 p.m. February 28, allegedly waiting for Jezel.

A few minutes after, Jezel arrived with his father, cousins and friends and without explanation, allegedly mauled Rafols.

Rafols also narrated that the respondents took his P300 cash from his pocket and his Seiko Diver's watch valued at P1,000. The respondents allegedly took turns punching him and hitting him with stones.

He claimed that one of them was about to stab him with a knife and would have succeeded if not for the timely arrival of a vehicle that stopped near them.

The respondents allegedly fled while the vehicle driver took Rafols to the Davao Medical Center for treatment.

Rafols alleged that the group was angry at him because he was actively disciplining students, most particularly Cristine who was allegedly involved in drugs. RCB
