Dads urge media to help stop Rody-BCG word war
TWO Davao City Councilors urged media practitioners Friday to aid in stopping the word war between Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Undersecretary Benjamin C. de Guzman, which is reportedly getting bigger and uglier.
"Hangyuon nako ang media nga mas maayo kung undangon na lang ang pagpagawas ug istorya nga makapainit pa sa duha. Kung wala sila'y madunggan o mabasa, mohunong na man na sila (I am requesting the media to stop doing stories that would ignite both parties. If both will not read anything, they will stop)," Councilor Emmanuel Galicia told reporters.
Galicia, likewise urged Duterte and de Guzman to stop issuing statements against each other.
Councilor Victorio Advincula echoed a similar opinion. However, he understands the media feasting on the issue between Duterte and de Guzman.
"The media will really feast on anything that will interest the public. But, they should also temper the publication kay usahay naay tama nga isulat pero lahi ang pagsabot sa mobasa (there are times when they write the right thing, but the masses interpret it differently)," Advincula said.
He believes that the word war between Duterte and de Guzman has created a negative impact to the public.
Advincula, who is also a lawyer, refused to side on either camps because both are his clients.
"Naay Supreme Court ruling ana nga bahin (There's an SC ruling about that). As a lawyer, dili puwede mopanig sa isa ka (You can't side with one) client against another client because you already know substantial things about the other nga puwede gamiton against sa iyaha (that can be used against the other)," Advincula said.
