PLDT vows to pay city By Aurea A. Gerundio
THE Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications (PLDT) Company promised to pay P245,000 regulatory fees to the City Government of Davao this week, City Treasurer Rodrigo Riola said Monday.
"There were representatives from PLDT who appeared here already and settled to pay the regulatory fees. Itong regulatory fees are from the different branches ng PLDT dito sa city. Mayroon sa Toril, Talomo, Buhangin and Calinan districts," Riola said.
Riola said the PLDT will still seek a City Council resolution on the abatement of surcharges and other interests.
"Maybe within this week daw magpapadala ang PLDT ng letter to the council seeking the condonation of the surcharges and interests," Riola said.
Riola said if the council will approve PLDT's request, their remaining tax liabilities will be reduced from P9.8 to P7.042 million.
Based on CTO records, the total surcharges payable by the PLDT since the second quarter of 2001 is pegged at P1.5 million while the interests amounted to P1.2 million.
"It is up to the Council to decide kung i-grant nila ang request ng PLDT (if they will grant PLDT's request). Pero, on our part tama lang na bayaran ng PLDT ang (For our part, it is only right that PLDT pays) surcharges and interests," Riola said.
