Traders in Iran for int'l SME seminar By Christie Enriquez- Uayan
DAVAO City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCI) president Romeo Serra and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Resource Network consultant Luis Bernardo are scheduled to end their seminar on national and regional support systems for SMEs in Iran Thursday.
Serra and Bernardo were chosen as the country's representatives for the international seminar slated October 5 to 9, sponsored by the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) based in Japan.
The objective of the seminar is "to recognize the importance of regional support systems for SMEs under the framework of national level support systems and to share member country experiences among participants."
Regional support systems include region- specific policy measures, legal instruments, and infrastructure that facilitate the access of regional SMEs to the most recent technologies and to financial resources.
During the seminar, member countries are asked to present a situationer on their respective national and regional support systems in the areas of market information, technology, credit opportunities, clustering approach, application of IT, and human resources development.
Serra was one of the outspoken business leaders who reflected the traders' sentiment on the weaknesses of the ongoing lending projects implemented by the government.
Considering the election climate in the country, DCCCI President urged politicians to do "more action than politics" in his speech during the opening of the Davao Trade (Date) Exhibit 2003 on Thursday.
