PWC prexy turns 85

ROSA Santos Munda, president of the Philippine Women's College (PWC) of Davao and a lawyer, celebrated her 85th birthday anniversary on October 1.

The morning affair, which started with a thanksgiving mass and simple refreshments, was held inside the college campus. Members of the celebrator's immediate family and the Santos and Munda clans were present, including PWC alumnae, administrators and faculty members.

Munda was born in Tamparan, Lanao del Sur on Oct. 1, 1918. Her parents were the late Gen. Paulino Santos and Elisa Angeles Santos, both natives of Tarlac province in Luzon. She was married to fellow lawyer, the late Amado Munda with whom she had six children and numerous grandchildren.

Her life became entwined with Mindanao when her father, a top military official, was tasked by the late Pres. Manuel L. Quezon to establish the resettlement of Luzon agrarian tenants in Mindanao in 1939.

It was in honor of her late father that the city of General Santos in South Cotabato was named.

This Mindanao connection was further highlighted by her association with the Philippine Women's College of Davao, where she served for 48 years, first as dean and later as president.

Her birthday celebration this year also marks the 50th foundation anniversary of PWC.

A more festive celebration of Munda's birthday followed in the evening of October 1 at the Apo View Grand Ballroom.

Dubbed "Tita Rosky at 85", the surprise birthday bash was thrown by the PWU-PWC Alumni Foundation headed by Amelia Bonifacio. The evening event was attended by no less PWU president Amelou Benitez Reyes and other official of the university.
