City workers won't join mass leave vs GSIS By Aurea A. Gerundio
* Employees' association president says group is holding separate negotiations with GSIS
* HR department head says local association here doesn't belong to group calling for mass leave
DAVAO City Hall Employees Association (Dachea) president Nora Fe Alajar Wednesday vowed they would not go on a mass leave to air grievances against the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
This developed following reports government workers will go on mass leave anytime this month to protest delays in the processing of GSIS loan applications.
"We support their plight against the GSIS, but we also have to treat the issues here against GSIS in a different way," Alajar said.
Alajar said Dachea is still gathering documents to support their concerns regarding pending loan applications with GSIS.
"There have been consultations already between the government employees and the GSIS personnel so there is no need for us to go on a mass leave," she said.
Acting Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) chief Marcelino Escalada Jr. dismissed worries of mass leave by government employees in the city, saying they are not affiliated with the group that initiated the mass leave in Manila.
"As what I heard, Courage daw na grupo ang nag-initiate ng mass leave and hindi naman affiliated doon ang ating mga government employees. There was no directive from Mayor (Rodrigo) Duterte regarding the matter kasi wala namang mass leave dito sa atin," Escalada said.
But Felix Cabuguas, a government employee who chairs the General Santos City chapter of the Confederation of Independent Union (CIU), disclosed plans of simultaneous mobilization by the different chapters, including Davao City, in Mindanao against GSIS next week.
Cabuguas said CIU has 50 chapters in Mindanao with at least 8,000 members, who are government employees.
Cabuguas lamented they had already talked with the GSIS management regarding some of their concerns. However, he added, it proved futile.
