Tesda helpless against illegal course offerings By Aurea A. Gerundio
THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has no police powers to close down schools administering courses without its accreditation, Tesda provincial director Isidro Montilla said Wednesday.
"In fact, we wanted to tie up with the local government unit (LGU) para matabangan pud mi ug monitor sa mga schools nga mo-enroll ug estudyante sa isa ka kurso nga dili gani accreditted ng Tesda (so they can help monitor schools that are offering courses that are not accredited by Tesda)," Montilla said.
Montilla could not give names of schools that are possibly violating Tesda rules. However, he believed that there are still a number os schools with new unregistered courses.
"We check on schools base on the complaints received by Tesda. We do not have the capacity to do the monitoring in all schools," he said.
Montilla also appealed to the Business Bureau not to issue business permit to schools unless the school has obtained an accreditation from Tesda.
"For the new enrollees, they have to look for the school's certificate of TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) from Tesda kasi we really advise school administrators to post it in conspicuous places," Montanilla said.
