TFD men can't be used as politician's guards
By Ben O. Tesiorna

TASK Force Davao (TFD) chief Gaudencio Pangilinan Wednesday said his men cannot be used by any politician as bodyguards or members of a private army especially in the coming elections.

"We will guarantee that; we will set this up with the least of the public concern na baka me abuso (that there might be abuse), misuse or gawing (use of) bodyguards ng (by) politicians. We will never do that," Pangilinan said in Wednesday's Club 888 at the Marco Polo Davao.

He made the pronouncement after some organizations accused the TFD as being made into "berdugos" of some public officials.

Detractors of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also accused TFD members of being "puppets" of the mayor. Duterte earlier denied using the military and police for his own personal gains.

TFD was created immediately after the Davao twin bombings in response to the rising terrorism in the city.

After six months of stay here in the city, he said TFD has effectively reduced threats of terrorism in Southern Mindanao.

TFD is presently recruiting and training Dabawenyos who will compose the Special Cafgu Active Auxiliary Unit -- a group envisioned to ultimately replace TFD in safeguarding the city from terrorist threat.
