Cali advances, 2 Davao pugs lose
By Marianne L. Saberon

OF THE three Davao City pugs who climbed the ring Tuesday night, only Brashary Ali Cali scored a victory in the National Youth Boxing Championships in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

Cali beat Cadiz City entry BJ Dolorosa in the 42-kg. category but teammates Guiller Ramos and Alexis Marvin Alegria lost on points.

Ramos bowed to Sammy Laput of Mandaluyong City while Alegria succumbed to Brian Rosal of Lapu-Lapu City.

Cali's victory came on the heels of the city's mixed fortunes Monday where University of Mindanao (UM) varsity members Lordvemen Bautista and Dave Ang emerged triumphant in their debut outings while four other Dabawenyos fell in their bid.

Bautista prevailed on points against Arnold Antojo of Bohol-A while Ang subdued Jeffrey Emilia of Bago City in a referee-stopped contest (RSC).

Bautista was set to climb the ring against Cadiz bet Bernardo Dolorosa in 48 kgs while Ang was set to test the mettle of Dumaguete City's Alvin Pabayos as of presstime.

Davao's Reymar Diamale, Rodel Dampog, Charino Quiapo and Roy Floro already bowed out of contention in the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines-sanctioned annual event.

Diamale was beaten by Mandaue City's Jessie Basaca, Dampog yielded to Milan Milindo of Cagayan de Oro while Quiapo conceded to Reymund Toledo of Bago City and Floro succumbed to CDO's Rodel Emboy.

The city government of Davao-funded boxing team is coached by Rolando Orosio and trained by Ronnie Sumampong and Leogene Siodina.
