Kidnapped resort workers not in Sulu, military says
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE reported presence in Sulu of the six abducted resort workers from Malaysia is nothing but hearsay, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Col. Daniel Lucero, AFP spokesman, said there were no reports confirming the arrival of the two Filipino and four Indonesian kidnap victims in Patikul, Sulu. They were earlier abducted by local Malaysian bandits from Borneo Paradise Resort in Kunak River, Lahad Datu, Sandaca last week.

The victims were identified only as Novelino, 20, and Sarah, 40, both
Filipinos; and four Indonesians: Anwar, 20, two men known only as Vito and
Alsad, all workers in the resort, and Amer Nangi, 45, an Indonesian.

ABS-CBN earlier reported about the supposed landing of the abductors and their victims in Sulu. The report claimed that the Malaysian bandits had now turned over the victims to the local Abu Sayyaf Group in Patikul.

A US$50 million ransom was reportedly asked by the suspects in exchange for the safe release of the kidnap victims.
