Laviņa chides DCIPC for airport map error By Aurea A. Gerundio
DAVAO City Councilor Peter Laviņa urged the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) Tuesday to correct the display board at the departure area of the new Davao International Airport (DIA) showing Southeast Asian countries but excluding Singapore.
"I congratulate DCIPC for putting up the displays at the departure area in the airport but one board there displays a map of Southeast Asia, which the inset feature included Bangladesh, which belongs to South Asia, and excluded Singapore," Laviņa said in his privilege speech.
Laviņa believed said such error may cause embarrassment to the city and be a potential source of diplomatic complaint from one of Philippines' strongest ally in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
Laviņa said Singapore is a founding member of the Asean and is the financial center among nations despite being the smallest country in the region.
"I hope that the errors be immediately corrected lest some foreigners especially Singaporeans discover our mistake," Laviņa said.
Meanwhile, Councilor Mabel Frances Laman, who chairs the City Council committee on trade and industry, said that she would bring the matter up to the DCIPC for corrections.
Laviņa also suggested the formation of an editorial board to screen promotional materials placed in conspicuous areas like in the airport.
