Passengers want Samal boats to ply early, knock off late

* Pumpboat last trips to Igacos too early for students attending evening classes in Davao City
* Igacos councilor to propose extension of schedules

THE chair of the committee on education of the City Council of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) said Sunday he is going to propose a resolution to extend the services of the pumpboats until 12 midnight to ferry passengers to Babak, Samal from Km. 11 in Sasa, in order to meet the growing demand of the riding public.

Igacos Councilor Orly Amit said in an interview over a radio station that once approved, the resolution would be submitted to the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina).

"Kasagaran man gud sa mga estudyante naay mga klase nga mahuman 9:30 p.m. na, atrasado na moabot sa Sasa, unya kay 10 p.m. man ang last trip sa lantsa tabok sa Babak, mabayaan gyod (Most of the students have classes until 9:30 p.m. and most of them are not able to catch up with the last trip). If they allow extension to 10 p.m. from the usual 6 p.m., maybe they can extend the schedule of the last trip to 12 midnight," Amit said.

He said he would present the resolution during the coming regular session of the Council to request the Marina board which is an inter-agency body who is responsible for making policies that will be passed on to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for implementation.

Amit said that earlier, traders especially those engaged in livestock business, pleaded for earlier pump boat services because the first pump boat leaves Babak at 5 a.m. and the traders want to be in Davao City earlier than that. RCB
