Siesta is good for your sanity
By Aurea A. Gerundio

TAKING a quick nap at noon is a good stress reliever and consequently encourages better mental health, psychologist Evangeline Castro of the Davao Mental Hospital (DMH) said in last Saturday's Kapihan sa PIA.

This is because stress is the most common cause of mental disorders, she said.

Especially with today's hurried pace at work, it is advisable to give one's self half an hour or so to unwind in between work.

Other stress-relievers, she said, is proper scheduling of day-to-day activities, socialization, participation in sports, listening to music, being involved in spiritual enhancement activities, and deliberate wearing of a smile.

DMH chief Rachel Jan Enojada, on the other hand, recommended the "C-A-L-M to be stress" procedure.

"C stands for change. There must be a change like in the schedules. Ayusin dapat ang schedule kasi kung magulo ang schedule (You should fix your schedule, because if it's messy), this is one reason that will cause stress. A is for accept. Tanggapin kung ano lang ang kayang gawin (Accept only what you can do). L is loosen up. A person must let go of 'yung hindi kayang gawin (things you cannot do). M is for managing of lifestyle. We have to eat well," Enojada said.
