REIGNING IBF super bantamweight champion Manny Pacquiao's rousing triumph against world-renowned Mexican featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera is expected to boost the morale of RP athletes bound for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chair Eric Buhain said, "Let Manny be an
inspiration for our athletes who will do battle for flag and country in the Vietnam Sea Games to go for the gold."
He said President Arroyo also extended her congratulations to 24-year-old Pacquaio, who hails from General Santos City and an adopted son of Davao City.
"We congratulate Manny for his great feat. May Manny's feat serves as an inspiration not only to our athletes but to all Filipinos--proving that in the global community, we can do it," Buhain quoted Arroyo.
The PSC chief earlier predicted a maximum of 60-gold medal output in the biennial meet to be held in two Vietnam cities--Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. RP is pinning its hopes in medal-rich sports athletics, wrestling, fencing, boxing, taekwondo, and billiards and snooker along with rowing, diving, chess, cycling, shooting, gymnastics, judo, wushu, pencak silat, karatedo-kata, weightlifting, archery and basketball.
Team Philippines is also expected to win gold in swimming, traditional boatrace, body building, canoeing-kayaking, sepak takraw, waterpolo, and volleyball.
