Bian, Serra willing to give FPJ a chance By Christie Enriquez-Uayan
AMID analysts' expectations that movie icon Fernando Poe Jr.'s decision to run for the Presidency will have a slight negative effect on the country's economic performance, two of the prominent business leaders in Mindanao have advised their colleagues and the public to give him a chance.
Mindanao Business Council (MBC) Joji Ilagan- Bian said, "FPJ, just like the other candidates should be given the chance to articulate his agenda before the judgment (of business community) can be made".
She said she it was a relief that the "Action King" finally decided to announce his candidacy, ending months of speculation.
The MBC Chair, however, stressed that the choice of the business community will depend on whether the sector "finds the right mix of qualities" that the leader should possess given the current situation.
But in a telephone interview, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCI) president Romeo Serra said the Philippine Chamber of Commerce has decided not to endorse a candidate.
"We are not about to endorse a single presidential candidate. We will just provide a venue for them to talk about their appreciation through the Philippine Business Congress. It is still up to the businessmen to choose," Serra said.
The Chamber President, like Bian, also said FPJ "should be given the opportunity to tell the people "his appreciation to the problems, what his priorities are, and how he will solve the country's problems".
Serra said contenders for the Presidency which include Raul Roco, Panfilo Lacson, and Arroyo will present their plans for the country, their view of the problems at hand, and their proposed action plan in solving the current and perceived difficulties as part of the culmination activities of the Congress.
He said they have already invited Poe to deliver a presentation along with the other candidates this Saturday but his attendance is yet to be confirmed.
