Inviting travel agents more effective than Wow!
By Ben O. Tesiorna

MORE benefits could be derived from inviting travel agents to visit Davao City than showcasing the city in Intramuros, City Tourism Office Id Acaylar admitted.

"Most of the visitors in Intramuros are students. But travel agents could really promote the City and bring in tourists," Acaylar said.

Acaylar said about P500,000 was spent for the transportation allowance of the delegates for WOW Davao.

Acaylar, however, admitted that the Wow Davao showcase in Intramuros underlined one thing: that City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is a veritable tourist attraction.

The flamboyant Acaylar said the mayor has somehow become a "legend" associated with Davao City. He said people residing outside of the Vity, especially those from Metro Manila and even those from other countries, never miss to ask about the City mayor when talking about Davao City.

Acaylar narrated how visitors of Wow Davao's presentation in Intramuros three weeks ago were so eager to see Duterte whenever they visit Davao City's booth.

Acaylar said that though the mayor was not able to join in the opening of WOW Davao in Intramuros, his staff was able to make something good out of Duterte's absence.

"Because of his absence, he became more of an enigma. He has become a selling point for Davao City. Many people there asked for Mayor Duterte and it gave us good reason to say that if they want to see Duterte, go to Davao City," Acaylar said.
