Dad backs re-routing of north-bound buses

DAVAO City Councilor Danilo C. Dayanghirang said he supports the order of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to prohibit north-bound buses from entering Quezon Boulevard to decongest traffic.

North-bound buses now pass through Buhangin, Diversion Road and Bangkal to reach the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal.

In a press release, Dayanghirang, who is chair of the City Council committee on transportation and communication, said the order was already implemented by the Traffic Management Center. However, this has drawn various complaints from bus operators as buses have to take a long route to reach Ecoland Terminal.

"Bus operators need to understand that we have to bite the bullet in development. Quezon Boulevard is a narrow road with an old design. If buses continue to pass along that road, jeepneys and commuters will continue to suffer," Dayanghirang said.

"Sometimes we need to sacrifice for the good of everyone. They may have to take the long route, but it will result to a smooth and slow traffic within the City," he added.

This new traffic policy was coordinated by the Traffic Management Center with the office of the Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board.
