Army exec orders probe on rape raps v. Cafgus By Ben O. Tesiorna
THE chief of the Army's 36th Infantry Battalion vowed Tuesday on an immediate investigation on the allegation of a woman that she was raped by two Cafgu members under his command.
Col. Max Caro said that though they have yet to receive formal complaints, he will nevertheless order an investigation into the alleged rape.
He said all he knows is that the crime allegedly happened last November 18.
But Caro said he is already in the dark as to the identity of the complainant and the suspects.
The colonel then encouraged the victim and the women's rights group taking care of the victim to coordinate with him and identify the suspects so he could institute action.
"We will investigate and let the law take its course. May due process naman. Pero wala pang details from Gabriela (women's rights group) eh. They should help. I don't tolerate wrongdoings by my men," Caro said.
In a television report, the victim identified only as Rosa claimed she was accosted by the suspects on suspicion that she is a member of the New People's Army (NPA). She said she was brought to the army detachment in Upper Ulip, Monkayo.
Rosa said she was forced to admit her being a rebel and when she continuously denied this, she was raped by Cafgu members identified only as Bert and Elizer in front of two other Army regulars.
Newspaper reports claimed that Rosa's residence in Monkayo is now being cordoned off by the military for unknown reasons. Caro however denied such allegation.
"Propaganda lang yan nila to destroy the good image we have here," he said.
