More troops deployed at Ecoland terminal By Raquel C. Bagnol
TO DECONGEST the street fronting the Ninoy Aquino Hall of Justice, the Task Force Davao (TFD) finally opened gates number 6 and 7 at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (Dcott) and added 20 more troops to man the gates.
TFD deputy officer Major Orlando Suarez said in an interview Tuesday they directed the arriving buses to use gate number 7 as entrance point and passenger drop-off area starting Tuesday.
"Ang arrival area ng mga buses ay doon na sa gate 7 (back portion of the Dcott). Doon na rin nila i-drop off ang mga pasahero nila. May mga tauhan ang TFD doon na mag-i-inspect ng mga bagahe," Suarez said.
Suarez said the opening of the two major gates will help meet the need of the passengers who will be in Davao for the holiday season.
"If our human resources will allow, tuloy-tuloy na itong pagbubukas ng gates 6 and 7. Before we only assigned eight men from the TFD at the terminal but now, we added 20 more men and we'll see to it that all probable target areas are covered, not only at the terminal but all over the city," he added.
Suarez also said they had already briefed at least 100 Dcott porters on how to detect suspicious baggage.
On the other hand, Major Monico Batle, commanding officer of the 9th Special Forces of the TFD said in a previous interview that they are open for criticism.
"Kung may nakita kayong mali sa pag-implement namin ng security measures and TF operations, feel free to let us know so we will know what to do. Kung walang magrereklamo, hindi namin malalaman ang inyong mga comments (If no one will air their complaints, we wouldn't know)" Batle said.
Batle said Dabawenyos can use the peace and order situation for the past six months as a gauge of the TFD's performance.
"We are trying to improve our security methods and the citizens can help us a lot by getting involved. The bottomline is for everybody to be vigilant," he added.
Batle said the second batch of Special Cafgu Auxillary Army (SCAA) are about to graduate and will be ready for deployment in time for the Simbang Gabi.
"The TFD and the SCAA will be more visible during the holiday season," Batle said.
