Rody authorized to grant cash gifts to city workers

* Council okays release of P53 million allotted for bonuses
* Regular workers to get P5,000 cash gift; contractuals to get P2,000 each

THE City Council approved the release of at P53 million Tuesday intended for cash gifts to at least 10,595 workers of the Davao City Government.

As this developed, city councilors, in an approved resolution, have authorized City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte to grant such bonuses to all city government employees, consultants, personnel under job order and contract of services, including volunteers.

But Councilor Bonifacio Militar, although he voted for passage of the resolution, expressed concern in the granting of cash bonuses as the names of those who will receive it have not been identified.

"I just hope they do exist and enjoy the cash gift. I hope they are not ghosts," Militar said.

Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, who chairs the Council committee on finance, told the Council there are a total of 10,595 personnel from the executive and legislative department entitled to receive cash gifts.

She said the amount set aside for this purpose is estimated to reach P53 million.

"According to the budget officer, these bonuses can be sufficiently funded out of the personal services savings from vacant positions under the plantilla of the city government amounting to P58.9 million," Ortiz said.

All regular workers of the city government will receive a cash gift of P5,000 while contractuals will receive P2,000.
