THE "Pahalipay ni Mayor sa Pasko" Basketball Tournament gets underway Wednesday at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) hard court.

It will be formally opened by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and city police director Conrado Laza at 8 a.m.

Joining them are DILG city director Merilo Limbaro, Sports Development Division officer-in-charge Galvani Yanong and City Hall sports action officer Roque "Kiking" Quimpan.

Four games are on tap in the opener of the cagefest for Davao City's policemen. The Police Intelligence takes on Police Precinct 4 (Sasa) at 8 a.m. while the Mobile Patrol Group collides with PP1 (Sta. Ana) at 10 a.m.

The City Mobile Group clashes against Traffic at 2 p.m. followed by the match between PP3 (Talomo) and combined PP6 and PP7 (Bunawan/Paquibato) at 4 p.m.

The tournament, launched in 1997 to foster camaraderie among police personnel, is sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines under regional director Regino Cua.

It is being implemented by the SDD of the City Mayor's Office. MLS
