Angel's first on-camera bed scene in `Crying Ladies' By Gigie A. Agtay
"I HAD my first bed scene infront of the camera in `Crying Ladies'."
Thus, said Angel Aquino, of ABS-CBN's popular lifestyle magazine show "F", during Sunday's movie press conference at Bistro Rosario along F. Torres, Davao City.
Angel, who is the religious and naive Choleng in Unitel Pictures "Crying Ladies" but cannot resist the sexual advances of her friend's husband, admits though that her role is not so heavy. "The story is very close to what reality is kaya maraming tao ang makaka-relate," she said.
Choleng is one of the three professional mourners in Manila's Chinatown.
The two others: Stella Mate (Sharon Cuneta) who dreams of a better job to be able to get back custody if her beloved son from ex-husband; and Doray (Hilda Koronel) alias Rhodora Rivera, a bit player of the `70s whose life revolves around the glory days of her B-movies career. They decide to accept a part-time job to be the professional mourners for a traditional Chinese funeral.
"Crying Ladies" comes from the maker of the highly successful American Adobo. It is based on Mark Meily's Palanca Award-winning screenplay titled "Bayad Luha" (Paid Tears). A heartwarming comedy, it sheds light to the struggles and little dreams of ordinary people living in the backstreets of Chinatown.
The three crying ladies are joined by outstanding actors Eric Quizon and Ricky Davao. The movie was written and directed by Mark Meily and produced by Tony Gloria, who are both were well known and recognized among the advertising circle.
Ricky, who was also in town to promote the movie, said this is the first time that the production crew is made up of people from advertsing. "Sanay na sila gumawa ng commercials so marami ng contact na set builders."
The movie material, he said is something new and exciting. "Iba ang timpla kaysa Mano Po," he said.
"Crying Ladies" will be Unitel Pictures' entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) that will be shown simultaneously in key cities nationwide starting December 25. MMFF awards night is scheduled on December 27.
