P2.16B annual fund gets council's nod By Aurea A. Gerundio
THE City Council on Friday approved the City's 2004 annual budget amounting to P2.162 billion allocated for general, development and economic enterprise funds.
Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, who chairs the City Council committee on finance, said P1.821 billion is to be allocated for the general fund, P64.830 million for the economic enterprises and P277 million for the development fund, which is at least 20 percent of the P1.3 billion Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).
The appropriation for peace and order is the biggest at P311 million, which is thought to be an indication that Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is firm in his stand to suppress lawlessness in the City.
City Budget officer Paz Eugenio said the fund has been increased to cover the purchase of several equipment for police operations. Seventy-two million has been allocated for the upgrading of the 911 emergency response center and purchase of additional equipment.
Eugenio added the City had bigger expenses during recent bombings since assistance had to be provided to victims. They also had to provide police vehicles, and spend for the rehabilitation of drug addicts who each receive a monthly allowance of 2,000 from the City.
The fund for economic enterprises will be appropriated for public market operations (with a budget of P34 million); slaughterhouse operation (with a budget of P16 million); cemeteries, the Davao City Recreation Centers, overland transport terminal and the Sta. Ana wharf.
The development fund will be used for reprogramming of previous plans and augmentation of appropriations.
