Transco to start bidding two projects in January By Christie Enriquez-Uayan
THIS January, the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) Southeastern Mindanao area will be offering the construction of two projects to interested bidders, District Manager Adolfo Mirasol said Monday.
"Hopefully, we could start with the construction by midyear so that by 2005 the projects will be operational," Mirasol said, referring to the proposed 110 megavolt ampere (MVA) substation in Maco, Compostela Valley, and a new switching station in Bunawan.
Mirasol said the equipment for the projects are already available. He said funding for the construction will be primarily shouldered by the firm.
An estimated P66 million is needed for the construction of the Bunawan switching station, while approximately P70 million is needed for the Maco substation.
He said Transco decided to undertake the projects as part of expansion plans, with additional consideration on the increasing demand for power within the Southeastern Mindanao area.
Mirasol said the Bunawan switching station is needed to accommodate the extra high voltage 230 kilovolt (kV) line from Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
Transco has lined more than P3 billion worth of projects until 2006 to improve the transmission of power supply within and among the regions in Mindanao.
Of the three sub-regions, only the areas in Northern Mindanao are enjoying surplus in power supply due to abundance of power sources and relatively a lower population.
