City has no homesite for 70 Sasa creekside families
By Aurea A. Gerundio

DAVAO City Government has yet to find a relocation site for about 70 families occupying the banks of Sasa creek before a riprapping project is started in the area.

Councilor Emmanuel Galicia, chair of the City Council committee on urban and rural housing development, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 11 is to start the rip-rapping project for the Davao International Airport Development Program (DIADP) by February. Residents near the creek will be affected by the project.

Galicia said he will give residents one month to relocate. Families not qualified for relocation, approximately 30 of them, will have their homes demolished if the Philippine Commission on Urban Poor consents.

Galicia said they initially planned to relocate qualified families to Saavedra property in Matina Pangi. However, only 30 lots are available in the area.

Galicia said the budget DPWH allocated for the project was P4 million, while the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) allocated P5 million.

However, DOTC has yet to draft a memorandum of agreement with the City to discuss the cost of relocation, and negotiate with a property owner who will be affected by the project, Galicia said.
