* 23-year-old boyfriend caught by barangay tanods raping victim in a cottage at Times Beach
* Victim succumbed to 11 stab wounds

A 19-YEAR-OLD housemaid died after she was repeatedly stabbed and then raped by her alleged boyfriend in a cottage at Times Beach, Matina, Davao City on Thursday morning.

The victim, identified as Gina Ante, of Ma-a, Davao City, succumbed to 11 stab wounds in the neck and chest.

The suspect was identified as Christopher Cabalhin, 23, a native of Trento, Agusan del Sur, and resident of Times Beach, Matina, Davao City.

SPO2 Sixto Pongase of Talomo Police said Ruel Ravanes, a member of the police volunteer group, and barangay tanod Edward Perez were on patrol at around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday when they saw the suspect lying on top of the half-naked girl in a cottage.

When confronted, Cabalhin allegedly fled, but was cornered after a 100-meter chase.

"When we caught Cabalhin, we tied his hands and left him with local residents. We went back to the girl but we discovered that she was stabbed and bleeding," Perez said in the dialect.

Efforts to bring Ante to the Davao Medical Center (DMC) proved futile because she was already dead.

Perez added that local residents have beaten the suspect black and blue, nearly killing him. He was brought to DMC for treatment and was turned over to the Talomo Police for detention.

Police are readying charges of rape with homicide against Cabalhin.
