By Marianne L. Saberon

DAVAO City pitcher Roger Rojas will have the biggest moment of his career as the Philippine Blu Boys debut against Australia in the ISF Men's Softball World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand on 11:00 a.m. Friday.

Rojas, one of the mainstays of the RP four-man pitching rotation, is joined by Asian Championship MVP Mark Rae Ramirez, infielders Manuel Bacarisas, Apolonio Rosales, Joel Binarao, Jasper Cabrera, catcher Rizal Santos, outfielders Orlando Binarao, Manolito Binarao and Fidel Moncera.

Rojas pitched the Davao City team to a silver medal finish in the Third Mindanao Games last year in Mati, Davao Oriental.

The Blu Boys will also have newcomers Sonny Boy Acuna, Eufracio dela Cruz, Isidro Abella, Melvin Villegas and Romeo Bumagat.

Coached by Reynaldo "Baby" Manzanares, the team is grouped with defending champion New Zealand Black Sox, Canada, Venezuela, South Africa, Netherlands and Samoa.

The Blu Boys will have their hands full against Venezuela on Saturday at 1 p.m. then they take on Samoa and Canada on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

On Tuesday, it will be a Blu Boys-Black Sox showdown at 5p.m. The Blu Boys will test the mettle of Netherlands on Wednesday and Samoa on Thursday.

Baby Manzanares' wards are eyeing to to surpass, if not duplicate, their fourth-place finish in the quadriennial event in 1968 during the Oklahoma inaugurals.

Thursday's opener features the Black Sox and Samoa at 7 p.m. The top four teams from each group will advance to the crossover quarterfinals.
