Davao athletes ready to invade Davraa
DAVAO City athletes are oozing with confidence.
Having undergone serious training at the Teodoro Palma Gil Elementary School, where they have been quartered for days now, the Davao players are ready to do battle and invade Mati, Davao Oriental for the Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa).
With all the team coaches declaring their wards in tip-top shape, the Davraa Meet from March 1 to 6 may yet turn again into a Davao City show.
Take for example the gymnastic team, or the swimming squad. Their members, this early, are ecstatic for the coming meet, ready to defend their titles in the annual competition for elementary and secondary athletes from all over Southern Mindanao.
The Davao gymnasts and swimmers have undergone a daily training to underscore their burning desire to land big again.
"We have been training here everyday. We train our rhythmic and artistic gymnasts simultaneously," said Mila Salcedo, Davao Gymnastics Association president.
Leading the charge for the gymnast team is 15-year-old John Mark Ryan Palma, who copped four gold medals in the 3rd Mindanao Games.
The team is also bannered by Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Shiela Mae Guillermo, Mindanao Games silver winner Mylin Fe Robles and bronze medalist Joann Dumadapat, Jessel Rose Anino, Reyanne Talan, Jacklyn Demillo, Antonio Paderes, Renante Epiz, Evodie Abesia, Mary Grace Carcasona, Genevieve Antoniano, Angie Castañares, Giodelyn Silva, Joel Dumadapat Jr., Charles Darwin Libradella and Kenneth Dumadapat.
The more than 400 Davao athletes are set to leave for Mati on Feb. 28. They will compete in events like basketball, football, volleyball, football, sepak takraw, swimming, athletics and gymnastics.
