Bry. 76-A officials favor division into 2 barangays
By Aurea A. Gerundio

THE Barangay 76-A Nagkahiusang Katawhan "Ato ni Bay" Association Inc. favors the division of its barangay into two, thus the creation of Barangay SIR New Matina.

In a copy of the barangay resolution submitted to the office of Councilor Amilbangsa Manding, chair of the City Council committee on Barangay Affairs, the petitioners said the creation of SIR New Matina into a separate barangay is appropriate as it can still meet the prescribed criteria stated under the Local Government Code.

As required by the law, a barangay can be created when the population does not reduce to 5,000 people. SIR New Matina is said to have a population of not less than 25,000 people.

The petitioners said SIR New Matina also has an existing elementary school, Day Care Center, Barangay Police Outpost, and a barangay hall.

The petitioners believe that the separation of SIR New Matina into a separate barangay will fully define and specify the accessibility to basic services rendered by the government to the barangay level.

Barangay 76-A is said to have a population of the more than 70,000 people. The petitioners said with the huge population, one barangay cannot serve efficiently its people specially in providing basic services, like health, social, welfare, drainage, sanitation, and solid waste collection.

The petitioners said they believe that the peace and order situation is getting worse because of the thick population.
